Congaree National Park, South Carolina
I went on a fun guided kayak trip down Cedar Creek inside Congaree National Park. We saw 20+ snakes in the water and trees, fishing spiders that blow a bubble around their mouths to dive under the water, turtles, barred owls and anhingas.
There are several species of snakes in the park, including this Cottonmouth, a highly venomous snake pictured above!
The canopy was over 150 feet tall!
I smelled every flower along the trail! The Kingsnake trail was flanked by these gorgeous yellow flowers and it was such a great hike.
Those running from enslavement lived in these swamps since they were difficult to navigate for those chasing after them. I cannot imagine how difficult it was to live in these swamps, which is truly a testament to the horrors of slavery.
I loved camping at Longleaf campsite. I woke up to the birds and fell asleep to the sunset through the trees!
