Biscayne National Park is 95% under water so I went on a snorkeling excursion near Sand Key where mangroves serve as a nursery for fish and other sea life. I saw blue lobster, mini jellyfish and all kinds of colorful sea plants and fish!
We also made a stop at Boca Chita Key. It was purchased in 1937 by the wealthy industrialist, Marc C. Honeywell. He threw lavish parties on the Key and even built this lighthouse, which was constructed on the wrong side of the Key and was decommissioned by the coastguard so to not confuse ships coming into Homestead, Florida. Now, the structure remains but no light shines from it!
I had a great time exploring the keys! The difference between a key and an island is that an island is geographically made where a key is biologically made from historical coral reefs.
